Cricket: Lyth and Leaning lead Tykes reply

Half-centuries from opener Adam Lyth and Jack Leaning put Yorkshire in a strong position on the second day of their LV= County Championship clash against Sussex at Arundel.

Lyth made 66 before Leaning, the 21-year-old playing only his fifth first-class match, compiled an unbeaten 75 as Yorkshire closed on 208 for three, 108 behind after Sussex had earlier been dismissed for 316.

A desperately slow pitch was extremely hard work for the bowlers, but Sussex’s attack, led by the outstanding Steve Magoffin, stuck to their task and did well.

In four spells, Magoffin bowled 23 overs, including 13 maidens, and picked up two for 22 to take his wicket-tally for the season to 35.
