As the race for the South Yorkshire League title enters the home straight, Wickersley have a handy lead for the run-in as they seek their first Premier Division title since 2005.
As they prepare for this afternoon’s home game with Norton Oakes, Wickersley have a 15 point lead over second-placed Whitley Hall who are at home to Aston Hall.
It is a sizeable cushion and the way they have been performing under the captaincy of Haider Jahangir, they must be confident. It would need a collapse in their final five fixtures to allow anyone else in.
Third-placed Elsecar are 23 points behind and their faint hopes would rely on them winning their next three (including when they entertain Whitley next Saturday) and hope that Wickersley lose three which would be surprising.
Bottom two Coal Aston and Houghton Main meet. Upper Haugh are nine points above them.
Premier Div today: Coal Aston v Houghton M, Hallam, v Whiston, Upper Haugh v Elsecar, Wath v Treeton, Whitley Hall v Aston Hall, Wickersley v Norton Oakes.
