Joe Root takes a break from England duties to return to his roots at Abbeydale today.
He’ll be among the stars - past and present - at the special T20 game marking Yorkshire’s 150th anniversary in Sheffield where it all began for the county.
Joe, in between helping England draw the T20 series with Australia before the five match ODI starts on Friday, will watch the T20 game between Yorkshire and a Sheffield Collegiate Invitational XI (3.30).
Yorkshire, mindful of their County Championship title bid, will field as strong a side as possible, whilst Collegiate will include a number of former Yorkshire stars including Martyn Moxon, Jason Gillespie, Richard Blakey and Ashley Metcalfe.
There is also likely to be an appearance for Collegiate for Billy Root, Joe’s brother, who is on the MCC staff and fielded as 12th man for England in the Ashes Test at Lord’s in July - a great day for the pair.
Doors open 1pm. Before it is a lunch for 350 with Geoff Boycott speaking and many Yorkshire celebrities there including Dickie Bird and Brian Close.
