Sheffield United finally got a full game in the Yorkshire ECB County Premier League thanks to the vastly improved weather and made the most of it as they eased to a win over Cleethorpes.
United’s bowlers put down good groundwork for the win, getting Cleethorpes all out for 146 in 54.4 overs.
Junior, Zafran Ali, was in fantastic form and it was he that inflicted the most damage as he took five wickets for only 26 runs. Paul Cummins and Mark Cummins took two wickets each to further the cause and only James Osmond scored significantly for Cleethorpes, hitting 55.
Paul and Mark Cummins were also instrumental in the batting side of United’s game as Paul opened with a 61 not out and Mark hit 57.
Sheffield Collegiate didn’t enjoy the same success on their return to action as they slumped to a loss to table-topping Harrogate.
Collegiate were never allowed to settle as the wickets continued to fall with Sam Davies taking three of them for only 16 runs in seven overs.
Josh Varley’s innings of 36 was the highlight for Collegiate as they were dismissed for 114 in 43 overs.
And Harrogate needed only 25.3 overs to stride to victory as Alexis Twigg’s 53 not out helped them to 115-5.
Rotherham claimed a thrilling three-run victory over Castleford. Solid batting from Archie Ogden, Stuart and Simon Guy and a knock of 66 from Jordan Lowe saw them amass 236.
Castleford came strongly after the break but Gurman Randhawa’s five wicket haul saw Rotherham over the line.
David Barrick’s innings of 118 knocked the stuffing out of Doncaster as Hull went on to beat them by 100 runs.
Barnsley were also comfortably brushed aside by York while Yorkshire Academy beat Scarborough by 20 runs thanks to Jonathan Tattersall’s century.
