Premier Division champions Elsecar, after another poor start to their South Yorkshire Seniior League season, are fighting back into contention for their 18th top-flight title, and beat hosts Houghton Main by five wickets.

Houghton were sent back for 151, Iftikhar Afzal claiming 3-27 for Elsecar, who answered with 152-5, Ishan Jayatharan striking 41.

There was another surprise defeat for Whitley Hall with visitors Hallam coming in at 184, Alex Davis 78 and teenager Will Hale 70. Whitley were in trouble at 61-4, and despite a knock of 76 from Jaco Castle, closed on 176, (Jesse Hemingway, 5-22, and Neil Mountjoy, 3-34).

Wickersley’s Shaajhan Younis made102 of a 166 total but Wath struck back with 169-5.
