Phil Jaques and Kane Williamson staged a superb fightback for Yorkshire on the third day of the LV= County Championship clash with Durham as the league leaders battled to avoid defeat against their nearest challengers.
Yorkshire were asked to follow on at Scarborough after losing their last seven first-innings wickets for just 63 runs this morning, having begun the penultimate day on 182 for three in response to the visitors’ 573.
The home side then lost Adam Lyth cheaply in their second innings. However, Jaques (151 not out) and New Zealand international Williamson (90no) joined forces to put Yorkshire back into the game with a brilliant unbroken 257-run stand.
That left the pacesetters on 276 for one at the close, trailing by only 23 runs.
