Captain elated by England form

Paul Collingwood hailed another "great performance" after seeing his England side win by five wickets in yesterday's Twenty20 international against crisis-hit Pakistan.

England overcame a mid-innings wobble to complete the victory as man-of-the-match Michael Yardy (35) and Eoin Morgan (38) steered the hosts to their victory target of 127 inside 18 overs at the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff.

From 62 for five at the halfway point, after losing four wickets for 20 runs, England regrouped to post a victory that was always on the cards after their bowlers restricted the tourists to a low total from their 20 overs.

T20 skipper Collingwood said: "That was another great performance. At the moment we have a strategy that seems to be working. The bowlers have been absolutely fantastic to keep Pakistan down to a total like that. It was always going to be quite gettable.

"We had a little bit of a hiccup there, losing a few early wickets, but Morgs and Yards were outstanding at the end."

The T20 and forthcoming one-day series have been overshadowed by allegations of spot-fixing surrounding Pakistan trio Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt, who all deny any wrongdoing.

There were doubts that the game might be called off but the England players nevertheless took to the field with an approach that delighted Collingwood.

"The skills that the boys have shown are absolutely fantastic," he added.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire will face Warwickshire at home in the semi-finals of the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition despite their seven-wicket reversal at Essex on Saturday.

"Warwickshire have got a good record and are playing good cricket but we would have taken either them or Essex," said Gale.
