England regained the Ashes this morning after completing a comprehensive victory over Australia at Trent Bridge.

England, who bowled the visitors out for 60 on the first day in Nottingham, completed the series win with victory by an innings and 78 runs on the third morning.

Stuart Broad took eight wickets in Australia's first innings, and a superb 130 from Sheffield's Joe Root set up a large lead for England. Root is now the No.1 ranked batsman in world Test cricket.

And Ben Stokes' six wickets in Australia's second dig ensured England regain the famous Urn, 599 days after they surrendered it in embarrassing circumstances Down Under.

"It was incredible," Alastair Cook, the England captain, said.

"I feel so proud of these boys, it's been an incredible turnaround since Australia 18 months ago and to do what they've done without the injured Jimmy Anderson, is incredible.

"A lot has happened behind the scenes since we lost 5-0 and we have to pay credit to [former coach] Peter Moores, too. A lot of the boys made huge strides as players under him and we have to remember him, as well as Trevor Bayliss and Paul Farbrace."
