Berriman bowls Main to success

HATFIELD Main got off the mark at the first time of asking on the opening day of the new Solly South Yorkshire Alliance with a three-run Division Three win over Whiston Meths seconds.

Main were bowled out for a modest 120 - Pete McConachie (25) and Andy Stuart (21) top scoring - as Haigh bagged 4-23. K Ingram (43) led the Whiston reply of 117 all out - Adam Berriman taking 4-14.

Parklands seconds were stumped by Wath fourths, who elected to bat and made 184 all out with skipper Gareth Roebuck, who hit eight fours and a six in his knock of 51, and No 6 Anthony Little, cracking 11 fours and three sixes in an unbeaten 79, scoring the bulk of the runs. Matthew Turner bagged 4-45 and Eric Hibling 3-36.

Parklands, for whom skipper Craig Taylor top-scored with 34, slumped from 68-2 to 104 all out in reply. Shaun Waldron (5-25) was the pick of the Wath bowlers.

An unbeaten 54, which contained eight fours and a six, by junior Luke Bishop, proved in vain as Adwick-le-Street (109-7) suffered a two-wicket defeat in their Billy Oates Twenty-20 Cup first round clash.

Opener Simon Boot (20) top-scored for Brookhouse, who benefited from 50 extras in their reply of 111-8 in 19.5 overs.

Whiston Meths slumped to a seven-wicket defeat at home to Wickersley Old Village thirds.

Openers John Lazenby (49) and Will Asher (31) put on 72 for the first wicket in Wickersley’s knock of 157-3, with No 3 Matthew Asher hitting seven fours in a knock of 42.

No 3 Richard O’Gram had earlier hit four sixes and three fours in a top-score 65 not out in Meths’ 154-6.

Kilnhurst Colliery coasted to a six-wicket win over Hampole & Skelbrooke - despite a 3-19 haul by Stuart Stubbins.

Opener Jonathan Green (39), No 4 Matthew Bacon (21 not out) and No 6 David Plummer (23 not out) saw the visitors (125-4) home with over five overs to spare.

Opener Tim Wright (24) and No 4 Steve Paish (28) were the mainstays of the Hampole knock of 123-7.

Shiregreen seconds, for whom No 3 Adeeb Hussain (30) top-scored, were 117-6 at the close of their innings replying to Wentworth’s 127-9.

Tom Orr (27), Matthew Jackson (33) and Matthew Sowter (29) supplied the bulk of the Wentworth runs. Hussain took 3-29.

Harworth Colliery beat Doncaster rivals Hatfield Main by five wickets.

Opener Richard Bartle made 27 with skipper Ian Joyce being unbeaten on 34 in Harworth’s winning reply of 127-5.

Junior Adam Berriman (21) had earlier top-scored for Main in their 124-7. Mike Davies (2-10).
