CAPTAIN Andrew Gale and England Lions selection Jonny Bairstow pulled Yorkshire round after an iffy start on the opening day of the County Championship clash against Leicestershire at Scarborough yesterday.
Yorkshire lost Sheffield youngster Joe Root (like Bairstow chosen for the Lions squad to face West Indies this month), Joe Sayers and Phil Jaques with only 33 on the board.
However, Gale and Bairstow fashioned a century partnership as they went neck and neck although Bairstow was fractional quicker to his half-century. Bairstow’s unbeaten ton was his second of the season and his fourth for Yorkshire.
After Ajmal Shazhad’s shock decision to leave the county, Yorkshire announced the signing of Mitchell Starc, the 22-year-old Australian left arm quick bowler.
