NORTHAMPTONSHIRE’S hopes of forcing a win on the last day of their LV= County Championship Division Two match against Yorkshire were thwarted as yet more torrential rain led to a draw at Wantage Road.
Yorkshire had stumbled to 74 for three just after lunch on Saturday as only 35 overs were bowled with Sheffield startlet Joe Root top-scoring with 38 but the latest deluge to have afflicted this match forced an early finish.
Olly Stone, James Middlebrook and David Willey had taken early wickets that on a dry day would have given them hope of becoming the first team to beat Yorkshire this season.
But the visitors remain unbeaten in the County Championship and although this was their 10th draw in 12 games their promotion hopes are still intact.
Yorkshire began the day on five without loss, 98 runs behind their opponents.
Unfortunately, rain began to fall just a few minutes before play was due to start, meaning one over was lost before the players eventually emerged five minutes later than planned.
