Schools across South Yorkshire are riding on Tour fever by using the world’s biggest cycle race as classroom inspiration.

Youngsters at Malin Bridge Primary School and Limpsfield Primary School in Brightside, Sheffield, have created huge art projects around a Grand Depart theme.

Creative pupils at Limpsfield worked with parents to create 90 polka dot jerseys and yellow bikes that will be in a procession at Wincobank and will be put on display to greet elite riders as they cycle up Jenkin Road.

Headteacher John Bainbridge said: “It’s our attempt to celebrate the Tour, welcome the riders and promote Brightside and Wincobank to the rest of the world.

“There is a lot of spirit and enthusiasm, we want to make it a great day.”

In Barnsley, pupils at Worsborough Common Primary worked with artists to create 3D land art in Wentworth Castle Gardens.

Claire Herring, gardens director, said: “We love working with schoolchildren because they are so creative.”
