Chairman Lee Strafford re-elected at AGM

WEDNESDAY chairman Lee Strafford was re-elected to the board at the club's AGM at a city-centre hotel today.

For more on the AGM, see The Star tomorrow, Wednesday, November 25, 2009.

Shareholders also reappointed directors Nick Parker and Ken Cooke.

Around 250 shareholders attended the meeting and it was a relatively low-key affair compared to some AGMs of the past.

Manager Brian Laws, Strafford and chief executive Parker each spoke as part of a presentation that explained the changes made at Hillsborough during the last year on and off the field, and the efforts being made to take the Owls forward.

There was some criticism from the floor, in view of the team's lowly league position, but in general shareholders praised the way the club presented their case.

It was made clear that the Owls are still confident of new investment but Parker placed no time scale on a deal.

Strafford said afterwards: "It was a very constructive meeting, with lots of passion, and understandable disappointment relating to the league position.

"I think the feedback from the floor was that people were happy with the way things were presented to them, and it was reflective of where we are as a club."

Laws produced statistics that backed up his view that the team were playing better football than in recent years.

He admitted that the most important statistic was the number of games won; he was disappinted with the return so far, considering the brand of football that the team have been producing; but he insisted that the results will turn.

Strafford said he was pleased to be re-elected the board: "When people say 'we want you to carry on doing this job', that feels good.

"I felt an obligation a year ago to jump in and sort this out; this was a big renewal of that obligation."
