TIGERS star Ricky Wells has arrived back in the UK and is ready to step up preparations for the new season - weather permitting.
The Californian racer will spend a second season with Sheffield after protracted contract discussions throughout the winter and is now hoping to take to the track.
He wants to get some laps in at places like Leicester and Scunthorpe who have planning permission for bikes to roar throughout the week.
Said Wells: “I always struggle to adapt to the cold weather when I come back here from California but I need to get back on the bike now.
“We are almost into March and hopefully we will have a good, dry spell so we can test the bikes and I can get back into race sharpness.
“Having said that, you can never really replace a racing situation. It will be good for us to race against Birmingham in our opening night on March 28, that’s a proper test.
“But I’m hoping we will have the chance to get some laps in over the next couple of weeks. It’s an important part of preparation for the new season.
“It will also be good to catch up with my Sheffield teammates.
“We’ve got some newcomers in the side and we need to get together and get to know each other.
“I know Simon Stead is buzzing about being back at Sheffield and I think he will be great for the team - a great skipper.”
