EVERY Saturday, Gleadless youngsters descend on South Yorkshire Sports Academy for a boxing class for beginners.
Instead of being greeted by a gristly, hardened coach though, they are met by Bianca Johnson, a 19-year- old from Intake. Despite her feminine exterior, Bianca has boxing experience beyond her years.
“I’ve boxed for 10 years,” she says. “I’ve competed in the National Championships and I love coaching.”
Bianca, who works for promoter Dennis Hobson, said: “It’s fantastic to give kids something to work towards. It isn’t just about the boxing either; we spend a lot of time confidence building and helping them with things that they can use elsewhere.
“There are a lots of girls at the gym. They really go hard and many are almost ready to compete properly.”
Bianca also coaches kids as young as five.
