FRANKIE Gavin has laughed off claims that he is going to get knocked out by Curtis Woodhouse – and instead vowed to stop the former Sheffield United midfielder who he has branded “an idiot”.

FRANKIE Gavin has laughed off claims that he is going to get knocked out by Curtis Woodhouse – and instead vowed to stop the former Sheffield United midfielder who he has branded “an idiot”.

The former amateur world champion, 25, fights Woodhouse at Liverpool’s Echo Arena next weekend with the WBO Inter-Continental welterweight title on the line.

‘Funtime’ Frankie, who trains at Arnie’s Gym in Manchester, is unbeaten in his 10 pro outings (8 KOs) and has been touted as a future world champion for quite some time.

His amateur career was outstanding and he remains the only Brit to have won an amateur world title. He also picked up gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Woodhouse and southpaw Gavin have been on a collision course since Woodhouse called out the Birmingham fan after beating Stefy Bull last year in Doncaster. There is also bad blood between the pair following Woodhouse’s unsuccessful spell at Birmingham City.

“I just think he’s an idiot,” Gavin told The Star. “He has beaten no-one and thinks he’s going to knock me out. Deep down I don’t think he’s even stupid enough to believe what he says.

“Where will Curtis go when I beat him? He’ll just have to be happy boxing for area titles because that’s all he can do.”

It was five years ago Woodhouse turned professional. He has earned plaudits for the way he has adapted to his new surroundings.

Gavin’s trainer Anthony Farnell, a former WBO Inter-Continental champion himself, added: “We know what Curtis has got but he’s never met anybody like Frankie Gavin and the things he can do. It will be a massive shock to his system.”
