Witter seeks form of old

JUNIOR Witter has been told to go out and replicate one of his finest performances of his life when he returns to America on August 1.

The South Yorkshire stylist, is seeking to win back the WBC title against Devon Alexander, aged 22, in California.

The last time he fought there, he was on a major bill headlined by the Bernard Hopkins v Howard Eastman fight in February 2005.

Against tough South African Lovemore N'dou, Witter, now 35, gave a durable and classy performance to win by the WBC light -eelterweight eliminator by unanimous decision.

It was a stepping stone towards his career high, when the Sheffield Ingle-trained fighter beat DeMarcus Corley a year later to win the ultimate prize.

Two successful defences followed before the Doncaster-based prizefighter lost the crown to Timothy Bradley who fights on the same bill in Agua Caliente Casino, Rancho Mirage in four weeks' time.

Trainer Dominic Ingle said: "It will be a buzz for Junior to fight in the States again.

"It will be a special type of atmosphere and one which I hope will bring the best out of Junior, like the time he beat N'dou.

"Junior will be ready. He has no injuries; a few niggles nothing drastic."
