Sheffield’s undefeated WBC International super bantamweight champion Kid Galahad will face English champ Jazza Dickens next week and we have tickets to be won, writes Graham Walker.
The big fight is at the Magna Centre, Rotherham, for the British Lonsdale Belt, on Saturday, September 14.
It’s also live on Channel 5 from 8pm.
But The Star, as an official media partner, is giving you the chance to win a pair to see it in person.
Full details below.
Chris Eubank Jr, Hughie Lewis Fury and a host of local talent will feature on the undercard.
Galahad and Dickens have both been nominated for the prestigious Boxing Writers’ Club Young Boxer of the Year Award.
Previous winners have include Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe, Naseem Hamed, Nigel Benn, Frank Bruno and John Conteh, who all received the honour before going on to become world champions and now Galahad and Dickens could be about to walk the same path.
“It’s a great honour to be nominated by the boxing writers for the Young Boxer of the Year Award,” Galahad said.
“To be able to put my name alongside the best Britain has produced is what I’m aiming to do and I’m going to show it in the Dickens fight.”
The 23-year-old undefeated WBC International champion, Galahad, who boxes out of the famous Brendan Ingle gym is already drawing comparison to former Ingle fighter Naseem Hamed and is confident he will come out on top in Rotherham.
“I’m glad I’m fighting an unbeaten and highly thought of fighter for the vacant British title, as I want to win it in style,” Galahad said.
However 22-year-old Dickens will certainly not make it an easy night for Kid.
Similarly holding a flawless professional record, boasting 16 wins with five knockouts, Dickens is the English champion, picking up the belt with a 10-round unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten Jon Fernandes in Liverpool, in his 14th contest.
Having already taken an undefeated record, Jazza will be out to do the same to Galahad and put his name up there amongst the best.
“The nominations for both these young and highly talented fighters solidifies what a fantastic contest we are all in store for on September 14th,” Mick Hennessy said.
The winner of the Boxing Writers’ Club Young Boxer of the Year Award will be presented with the Geoffrey Simpson Award at their Annual Dinner at the Savoy Hotel in London.
Eubank Jr insists he’s like a “caged lion” ready to put on a “devastating” display at the Magna Centre on September 14.
Supporting Galahad vs Dickens, he is ready to put everything on the line in a “no holds barred” contest.
“I’ve been training hard continuously, killing myself in the gym and you need a goal and now that’s September 14 on Channel 5,” Eubank Jr said.
“I’m like a caged lion pacing back and forth, waiting for the chance to get his claws into the first person that comes into range.
“I’m so up for this fight, the guy is in for a woeful night – he’s going to get out of that ring thinking, ‘Maybe boxing’s not for me?’, because this is going to be a no holds barred fight.”
Eubank Jr, 23, contests his eleventh fight as a professional, having won all 10 to date with five knockouts and he is eager to get in there and deliver his third straight stoppage in as many fights.
“All this testosterone that’s been building up over the last year – it’s going to be devastating,” Eubank Jr said.
Also supporting Galahad when he fights for the British super bantamweight title at Magna, will be current World Youth super-heavyweight champion Hughie Lewis Fury in his ninth outing as a pro, as well as a whole host of local talent on the under card.
