Title glory for ‘Daddy Cool’
Jason Ball
JASON Ball is now the Daddy inside and outside of the ring.
Up against Steve Harkin at Liverpool’s Olympia, ‘Daddy Cool’ Ball took the fight to the hometown fighter and claimed a seventh round stoppage after sending Harkin to the canvas.
Initially, the bout had been scheduled as for the British Masters title but the Central Area title was added to the spoils last week and now Ball, aged 28, can claim to be the best light-middleweight from Liverpool to Hull, taking in the boxing hotbeds of Sheffield and Manchester.
Ball has a mixed record now, with five wins, five defeats and a draw after mainly boxing on the road.
Mexborough-based trainer Stefy Bull has overseen the revival in the former cage fighter’s fortunes. “It was his best performance to date,” he said. “The referee gave the first round to Harkin and the rest to Jason and the stoppage was always coming. It’s a great win for him and we’re over the moon.”
The win is all the more credible with Ball becoming a father of twin boys over Christmas. He still managed to find the time to train twice a day but a cut from a headbutt will rule him out of boxing on Bull’s show in March.
Ball said: “It’s been every three hours up feeding and if I’m training too long the missus gets on my case! The cut doesn’t bother me. I had loads of cage fights and never got headbutted once.”
