Sheffield United want absolute assurance that a planned Kell Brook world title scrap with Errol Spence JR at their stadium WILL materialise.
Last year, they had begun putting plans in place to stage Brook’s scheduled defence against Jessie Vargas.
But the September event never happened - Brook’s camp pulled the plug despite the fact Vargas had signed his part of the deal.
Instead, Brook boxed Gennady Golovkin in London. Promoter Eddie Hearn now has work to do at the League One club- and started it in earnest this week, visiting Bramall Lane to re-launch negotiations.
United are heading for promotion; if they win the League, they won’t play at home after April 30.
But if they are part of a play off group, they would not play at home after May 14, at the latest.
That’s enough time for the fight to take place on May 20 or more likely May 27.
