KELL Brook looks destined for fresh heart-ache today.
The world-title chasing Sheffielder has twice seen planned contests against American Devon Alexander shelved through injuries in either camp...now he may have to postpone again.
The Star believes the 26-year-old has fractured a fourth toe, and may have sustained further damage further up the foot. It’s not a new injury. We understand it’s an old one that’s flared up again.
It’s possible that if tests today confirm the worst, a pot may have to be placed on his foot. That could need extensive rehab and the possible arranging of a warm-up fight before taking on Alexander in the autumn - if the champion is available, at that time.
Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn said the welterweight will see a specialist today. “He has had MRI and CT scans, but we will not know more until we have spoken to the specialist,” he said.
Brook was originally due to meet Alexander on January 19 but rolled his ankle in December. The fight was then moved to February 23 but Alexander pulled out due to a bicep injury. Brook was absent from a Ponds Forge show on Saturday.
