Scott Jenkins goes back to the drawing board today as he seeks to put behind him the first loss of his career.
The Sheffielder was KO’d by Hungarian Jan Holec at Ponds Forge to put a dent in his 14-fight lightweight record. Afterwards, he admitted making weight had been an issue. Jenkins admitted to The Star: “I shouldn’t have boxed I had weight problems. I killed myself to make weight, a few weeks ago I pulled out because I knew it.
“But anyway I needed the money, took the chance a paid a big price. But hey ho life goes on. I’m going to have a chat with my coach this week see what to do.”
Jenkins’ defeat spoiled not only his night, but that of his pal Adam Etches, who KO’d his opponent on the same bill.
“I felt like I’d lost last night because of that” said Etches.”Scott fought the wrong fight. He didn’t box, he went to war. He should be smashing those kind of opponents, I am gutted.”
Well-wishers continue to support Arbourthorne fighter Jerome Wilson, who is showing signs of recovering from a head injury in the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Roberto Duran and Audley Harrison are the latst pledging their support.
