Rotherham’s Navid Mansouri is English light middleweight champion tonight after a pulsating 10-round points win over brave and resourceful Ingle fighter Tyan Booth.
Booth, 30, a replacement opponent in the Dave Coldwell bout at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge, conceded some of the early rounds but grew in confidence as the brilliant contest continued.
It was hard to pick a winner by the middle stages, with Mansouri, 27, the main aggressor, coninually being picked off at range and on the counter.
It was awkward, but he did enough to win.
The points decision saw Mansouri take it, 96-94, 98-94 and 98-94.
Curtis Woodhouse took just 96 seconds to KO a weak and spindly Hungarian Sandor Horvath, in the former Sheffield United man’s first fight as a lightweight.
Rotherham’s Chad Gaynor was even quicker, KO’ing Sylwester Walczak in 71 seconds.
Liam Cameron bt old foe Harry Matthews, Samm O’maison comfortably dispensed with William Warburton and heavyweight David Howe finished off Luke Martin in the second round.
Tom McAssey survived a scare to beat Joe Jones and Joe Rodgers outpointed Liam Ellis.
