Kell Brook, Sheffield’s big hope of a world title, overcame his big test tonight in a re-match against troublesome American Carson Jones.

Boxing outdoor at Hull, the Ingle powerhouse dominated the early stages and forced an early knockdown.

Jones, such a game warrior, started to assert himself for a short spell.

But Brook started to impress again and referee Michael Alexander stepped in, in the eighth round.

Jones was angry - saying he wasn’t in trouble.

Brook said he’d “had fun.”

Afterwards, Eddie Hearn, the promoter, said a big fight at Sheffield Arena would be announced in September.

Could that be Shane Mosley?

*Curtis Woodhouse, the former Sheffield United footballer, stopped Harworth’s Joe Elfidh earlier on the bill at Craven Park.

Woodhouse had his opponent on the floor three times before the one-sided contest was stopped.
