Dave Fidler has denied suggestions he intended to be disrespectful to a rival boxing camp after an ugly stand-off outside the ring.
The Star reported yesterday how the 35-year-old Sheffield confronted promoter Dave Coldwell after his boxer Nav Mansouri’s fight ended in a first round technical draw (a cut suffered by opponent Matthew Mallin.)
Fidler believes he had better credentials than Mallin (he beat him last year) and should have been picked to fight Mansouri, who was defending his English light middleweight title.
He said: “It wasn’t my intention to be disrespectful, it’s not in my make-up, I just felt hard done by we didn’t get a call to fight. I’ve got the engine and desire to trouble Nav.”
