Jon is a 29-year-old professional boxer, born in Tameside, Manchester, but living in Sheffield. The lightweight - who has the nickname of 2 Smokes - fights against Gary Sykes for the English super-featherweight title at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena later this month, on the Amir Khan bill.
What have you been doing today?
Well Sunday is my rest day from training so I have just rested, chilled out and took the dogs for walks.
Who is your inspiration and why?
Personally, my parents who have done their upmost to give me the best life possible.
Sporting inspiration, I would have to say Sugar Ray Leonard; a fighter who just had it all.
Which sports star did you admire when you were growing up?
I admired Eric Cantona - as I am a massive Manchester United fan.
And we share the same birthday!
Who is the most famous person in your phone?
Matthew Hatton (boxer and brother of Ricky.)
When was the last time you cried?
Last week over something quite personal. I am not afraid to cry. It takes a man to cry, they say, lol.
Who or what are you most proud of?
Getting married to my long-time partner, Jemma, 18 months ago; we have been together 10 years.
What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?
You want something bad enough, you should work hard so you get it.

When did you know you were good at what you do?
When I won my junior ABA title, 2001.
What’s the one item you take with you wherever you go?
My wedding ring!
What is the most nervous you have ever been?
My first ABA fight.
Do you ever doubt yourself?
No, because I believe in everything I do, 150%.
What is your view on social networks like twitter and Facebook?
Good and bad. They are good to let your fans and friends know about upcoming fights and training stuff.
But it is bad for back-stabbers and those who hate you.

How do you relax away from sport ?
I walk my dogs. We go away to my caravan in Skegness and spend quality time with my wife and family.
Where was your last holiday - and would you go again?
I go there often, at least two times a year.
I like to get away after fights and unwind
Do you cook? If so what’s your favourite? if not who provides that favourite meal?
I do cook but my wife Jemma is a dab hand in the kitchen and cooks a mean chilli. But I do a good spaghetti bolognese.
What was the last book you read?
The Secret (written by Rhonda Byrne ), a very good book about the mind and power and positive thinking.

If you weren’t doing what you do, what would you do?
I work as a full-time plumber away from boxing in Manchester when I am out of fight camp so probably just that.

Just that I am a good, honest, hard-working lad who sacrifices a lot to try to make a better life for myself and family.
Your favourite television programme?
Mrs Brown’s Boys; I just can’t get enough of it.
What’s your favourite other sport?
As said earlier, I am a Manchester United fan and try to attend as many of their games as possible.
