SHEFFIELD’S Ryan Rhodes will fight for the WBC world title in June.
After a two-year wait for the chance, he has been listed to take on the reigning champion, Saul Alvarez, possibly in his rival’s backyard in Mexico.
Rhodes, aged 34, has been on the brink of a title shot since beating Jamie Moore in 2009.
“I am over the moon, it’s what I have wanted all my life,” he said. “I know I can win and I will train the hardest I have ever trained over the next 12 weeks.”
Alvarez, who beat Matthew Hatton earlier this month, is only 20 but is acclaimed by Oscar De La Hoya as the next big thing.
