Ross Burkinshaw’s return to boxing after two years out injured ended in heartbreak last night.
The Mosborough, Sheffield, trooper was stopped in the fifth round at Don Valley stadium by by Bristol-based South African Michael Ramabeletsa.
Burkinshaw, keen to impress, was guilty of not doing what his trainer Glyn Rhodes had asked of him - to box rather than scrap his way back into the sport.
A meaty left hook looked like finishing The Rifles Regiment soldier off - and Rhodes threw in the towl.
Burkinshaw’s record is now won 9 (KO 5) + lost 4 (KO 4) + drawn 2.
