Return of the Outlaw
Josh Wale is set to make his much anticipated return to the ring in Scotland tomorrow, after a frustrating absence.
It has been a difficult time for The Outlaw as two fights had been arranged, then swept away at the last minute, the disappointments coming amid a parting of the ways with Rotherham trainer Dave Coldwell.
Brampton's Wale said of his inactivity: "It's been laughable really. Boxers say they'll fight anyone, but they don't seem to want to fight me."
Wale has been encouraged by the news that he does have an English title shot lined up against Mark Moran in September. But his last fight was back in September 2008, where he lost for the first time in his professional career against South African Harry Ramogoadi.
Wale was set to make his comeback at Bramall Lane on the same bill as Curtis Woodhouse in March.
However, his opponent Sid Razak pulled out only a few days before the fight.
After leaving his deal with Coldwell and Hayemaker promotions, Wale must have thought that he had struck gold with a British Super-Bantamweight title shot against Mark Moran in April.
An unfortunate sequence of events meant that it was Jason Booth who got to face Moran instead and Wale was again made to wait. Booth stopped Moran in the sixth round to claim the title.
The ongoing saga appeared to be over for 21-year-old Wale, when it was confirmed that he was to fight James Ancliff for the International Masters Title in Scotland.
However, Ancliff recently pulled out. Wale is now slated to face Russian journeyman Andrey Kostin tomorrow - but the bigger picture is that he is just happy to be back in the ring, away from the politics of boxing: "It's going to be brilliant to get the feel of things again," he said.
"It's been a bad season, but hopefully it will finish on a high."
The fight in Scotland is a stepping-stone for Wale in his pursuit of a British title.
"I want to become British Champion. To bring home a Lonsdale belt would be the pinaccle for me."
Former trainer Coldwell has nothing but encouragement for Wale. He said: "It's a shame things didn't work out as he's a really nice kid and I still think he's going to be a champion."
