Parson Cross boxer in ABA finals

Parson Cross’ Kieran Williams will be the only South Yorkshire representative in the Junior ABA finals this weekend.

Neither Tom Hill ABC’s 42kg entrant Conner Kelsall or 40kg boxer Saif Yousaf from Ingle BA could get wins at the Great Barr Leisure Centre in Birmingham.

Kelsall was beaten in his semi final by Lewis Coley from the 2nd City gym whilst Yousaf exited at the hands of Hall Green boxer Mohammed Aslam. Williams has received byes right to the final but the 80kg+ boxer will face Barnstaple’s Rob Squires in Sunday’s final at the TA Centre in Grove Park, London.

It was Manor Boxing Academy’s turn to host their own show as the amateur season winds down.

Getting the first win for the home club was Grant Turner who triumphed over Anthony Humphries from Everton Red Triangle.

Phoenix Laula-Togagae got another win under his belt against Retford boxer Nelson Rush.

Liam Fisher was also victorious against Phoenix’s Shacane Topping.

Shakiel Thompson added another win against Richard Jameson from Everton Red Triangle.

Darnell Sterling also tasted victory against Connor Moore from Stamford whilst Bright Mpofu got the better of Kyle Birkett.

Matthew Proud also notched a win against Alex Fearon of Pegasus.

Manor BA boxers did not have it all their own way with Chandler Haigh losing to Anthony Baskerville whilst Richard Plant went down to Xbox’s Andrew Green.

Joe Leaver lost narrowly to Colliston Edwards of Doncaster Plant, and Doncaster Boxing Academy fighter Ryan Stevenson beat Leon Fields from Alfreton on the same bill. Sheffield Lane Top endured two losses on the night with Abdul Saeed losing to Shay Hugman from Walsall Wood.

Zeeshan Maughal was then stopped by Phoenix’s Brad Dawes. Sheffield Boxing Centre took a trio of fighters to Leeds at short-notice.

Arron Flynn got the win against James Frost but Jake Saunders lost to Bradley Rhodes.

Robbie Brookes went down to a points loss at the hands of Ivan Price.

Sam Wragg from SBC has also had a busy time of it with two quickfire bouts.

Wragg stopped Manor’s Leon Howe in the third round. Wragg was then taken to Creswell in Northumerland to take on Hunslet’s more experienced southpaw Ivan Price who got the win.

Sheffield City ABC had mixed fortunes on High Fell ABC’s show in Gateshead.

Leon Moulds picked up the best junior boxer award following his win over Spennymoor’s Luke Thornton.

Ibby Hussain, meanwhile, went down to a points loss against home fighter Jason Metcalf. Barnsley Star also endured a mixed night on a show at Rochdale Town Hall.

Chris Brown won but debutant Jordan Welford lost on points.
