Not-so golden boy Nadeem loses again

NADEEM Siddique's "Golden Boy" nickname has been further tarnished by a second-straight defeat.

Having slipped to the only loss of his 23-fight paid career at the hands of Walsall's Martin Gethin 11 months ago, Nadeem Siddique - previously with the Ingles but now with Manchester trainer Oliver Harrison - returned to the ring at Wigan's Robin Park Arena on Saturday, taking on Maldon's Tom Glover.

After a long lay-off Central Area welterweight king Siddique was looking for a performance that would re-establish himself and he went into the contest knowing he'd outpointed him 60-55 over six rounds at Doncaster Dome in 2007.

What transpired though was far from what Siddique had envisaged when he was disqualified in the 9th round by Doncaster referee Howard Foster for persistent low blows.

Sheffield super-featherweight Steve Barnes is nothing less than confident and he moved to 3-0 with a 39-36 four round victory over Latvia's Jevgenijs Kirillovs, benefitting from a fortuitous knockdown at the end of the 3rd session.

Also in action at Wigan, Sheffield's appropriately-named Richard Towers, a tall heavyweight from the Ingle camp, made his mark on his pro debut by outpointing Scunthorpe veteran and ex-Midland Area cruiserweight champion Chris Woollas over four two minute rounds in the evenings show closer, out-jabbing his more experienced opponent and sending him to the canvas in the 3rd en-route to a 40-35 victory.

*Sheffield's Daniel Thorpe made the journey north to Glasgow but was unable to stop Irvine's recently crowned Prizefighter lightweight champion Ryan Brawley improving to 13-0 as a pro.
