Move over Kid, The Boss wants to take charge...

Waiting for Video...

Ross Burkinshaw admits he has slipped down the nation - and Sheffield’s - boxing pecking order.

Injuries have meant ‘Ross the Boss’ has fought once since 2010.

The 26-year-old former English super flyweight champion now says he is back and is campaigning at super bantamweight.

And one potential match-up more than any other is driving him on.

A chance a to grab on to the coat-tails of fellow Sheffielder Kid Galahad.

Galahad is the darling of Channel 5 boxing and has his sights set on domestic and international titles.

Burkinshaw accepts he has been left trailing in his wake following a catalogue of leg and shoulder misfortunes, admitting: “Galahad has done well.

“Before, we have both knocked each other in the paper, but I am not knocking him at all (now.)

“He has had some hard fights against some great fighters and he has beat them so he has moved on deservedly.

“I have been left in the shadows, but that was down to injury. Who says that in a year’s time, I might catch him up again? And then, the fight is there for both of us.

“It will be a great fight for Sheffield as well.”

Burkinshaw (W9 L4 D2) believes unbeaten Galahad would be attracted to fight someone of his come forward style but added: “I think I would be have too much pressure for him.

“But it is one of them, where you have to see on the night.

“Styles make fights, we have got opposite styles that would make a good fight,

At the moment I am down the chain from him, he is ahead of me. But give it a year and I catch up to him he’s got to give me chance.”

Burkinshaw faces Doncaster’s Gavin McDonald, at the Dome, on July 6.

Other fights on the bill include Crosspool middleweight Jez Wilson v Wiltshire journeyman Dan Blackwell.

Sheffield light middleweight Dave Fidler takes on Doncaster-born Adam Jones, who went the distance with Rotherham champion Nav Mansouri last year.
