Sheffield veteran Ryan Rhodes is just one fight away from a world title showdown.
The Ecclesfield light-middleweight was yesterday nominated by the WBC for a final eliminator against Mexican Alfredo Angulo.
The winner will take on the victor of the Matthew Hatton v Saul Alvarez match-up in California this weeekend.
Rhodes, aged 34, said: “I am over the moon; I have been waiting for this for years. He is a tough banger with 16 KOs from 18 wins and has only been beaten once, and then by Kermit Cintron, who boxes at the very top level. He is a puncher, but he can’t punch somebody he can’t see.”
Purse bids for the duel will be made on April 1. “I am not bothered whether we fight in Mexico, the USA or here,” said the 49-fight campaigner.
