NICKI Smedley has vowed to learn from the first setback of his professional career.
The Sheffield boxer is keen to make amends following his points defeat to Nigel Wright last Saturday. Smedley admits he was disappointed with his display and to have missed out on claiming the English light -welterweight title.
“I was gutted to lose the fight but I have learnt a lot about myself,” he told The Star. “It was the first time I had done 10 rounds and I now know that I have to pick my workrate up.”
Promoter Dennis Hobson branded Smedley’s showing “lazy” and said he “didn’t use his jab enough”.”
