Jamie McDonnell has seen the opponent for the first defence of his WBA bantamweight title switched at the 11th hour.
The Doncaster fighter was set to defend his crown against Walberto Ramos at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on Saturday night.
But visa issues have forced the Columbian to withdraw with Argentina’s Javier Chacon stepping in at late notice.
Chacon has won 20 of his 22 bouts, stopping five early. The 33-year-old took WBA ‘super’ bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno the distance in March but was well beaten on points.
The Moreno bout in Panama was Chacon’s first outside his native Argentina.
McDonnell will face WBO bantamweight champion in a world title unification bout in Las Vegas early next year if he beats Chacon on Saturday night.
