Kell Brook will headline London’s O2 Arena in his second consecutive fight – if a deal can be reached with US ace Brandon Rios.
There had been suggestions Brook could defend his world title at Bramall Lane later this summer.
But promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed Brook has built his training camp around a September 12 date with the latest defence of his IBF welterweight crown to take place in the capital.
However that date is entirely dependent on an agreement being reached with Rios, whose only unavenged defeat came to Manny Pacquiao.
“We’re in discussion with Top Rank (about Brook-Rios),” Hearn told Boxing News.
“It’s not done yet. If that is done, then that will be the headline bout at the O2 on September 12. If not Kell might fight in October instead but he’s in training now with that date in mind.”
Hearn also revealed he will be pursuing a bout with Timothy Bradley – another only beaten by Pacquiao – as the next opponent for Brook, should a date with Rios be made.
But the Matchroom Boxing chief also hinted that British super fight with Amir Khan remains at the forefront of his plans.
He said: “If it’s Rios, I think after that we look at Bradley, if we can’t get Khan.”
