Josh Wale failed in his second bid to become British champion after being outpointed by Jazza Dickens in Liverpool.

The Barnsley fighter showed tremendous resilience throughout what was a real war of a fight but did not have enough to edge out the more skilful Dickens

He did manage to unsettle the hometown fighter at several stages, drawing him into a close range scrap which certainly favoured Wale.

Dickens twice had points deducted for fouls, once with the head and another with shoulder charges, while he was warned on several other occasions by Doncaster referee Howard Foster. His over enthusiasm threatened to be his undoing.

But Dickens showed more composure and smarts to stay at distance in the later stages. Adding to a stronger start to the fight, it was more than enough to see him claim the vacant British super bantamweight crown.

The three judges’ scorecards read 115-112, 115-112 and 116-110, all in favour of Dickens.
