Jamie McDonnell finally has a date and venue for his world title unification fight against Tomoki Kameda.
Doncaster’s WBA bantamweight champion will head to San Antonio, Texas, USA to face WBO champion Kameda on May 9.
McDonnell has known since last autumn that he would be facing the Japanese sensation in a unification bout, and that the fight would be in the US.
Promoter Eddie Hearn made the announcement on Thursday night, revealing the 28-year-old would be the chief support to Ricky Burns’ clash with fellow former world champion Omar Figueroa.
The fights will take place in the afternoon, Texan time, to allow both to be shown as part of a packed night of boxing on Sky Sports which includes a show in Birmingham.
