Jamie McDonnell admits he was concerned he was using his full arsenal during his successful WBA bantamweight title defence against Tomoki Kameda in Texas.

The Doncaster fighter dominated behind his jab for a comfortable points win in his rematch with Kameda, four months after beating him a single point in their first meeting.

McDonnell took a unanimous decision and even had former WBO champion Kameda down in the 12th round.

"Everything we did there went to plan," McDonnell said.

"The plan was to box him, catch him with some big shots as he came in. I felt in control.

"The jab was the key to this fight and I used that jab.

"I used the jab more than I did anything. I can remember in some of the rounds thinking I haven't thrown the left hook or the left hook to the body which was one of the shots we were planning on throwing.

"But the jab was working and I felt in control all the way through.

"When I dropped him in the last round, I think he did slip a little bit, it was a bit slippy in the middle and I tried to stay away but I did catch him.

"After that I knew I'd sealed the victory."
