Unbeaten middleweight Adam Etches has pulled out of a profile-enhancing spot on a world title bill after a hand injury.
The Birley powerhouse was on the undercard of the Gennady Golovkin v Osumanu Adama IBO/WBA contest in Monte Carlo on February 1.
“It was a bit bruised after the dinner show we did for Weston Park but then I banged it again in training and there’s no way I can be ready. I’m gutted.
“I love watching Golovkin, he’s an animal and to be on the same bill as him would have been fantastic. Richard Poxon (matchmaker) had swum the channel getting me a spot on it, so to have an injury knocks some of the stuffing out of you”.
Etches added: “I’m going to rest it for a couple of weeks and then it should be ok. We’re going to put our own show on again late March. I’ll be defending my IBF Youth Title which will help me to keep progressing.
“I’ll be keeping fit because Rich has got us cycling up Mont Blanc for Weston Park in July, so I need to get some miles in to get ready for that. Letting Richard or Scott Jenkins finish in front of me is not something I would ever live down!”
