SHEFFIELD middleweight Adam Etches enhanced his reputation as a stoppage-specialist as he recorded his eighth straight win, at Meadowhead.
The 21-year-old ‘Birley Bomber’ had not gone past four rounds in his previous fights and had to wait for round five before he overpowered game Bulgarian Borislav Zankov at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel.
Etches had been the heavier handed and quicker boxer and inflicted a nasty shiner on Zankov’s left eye. The damage spurred the Hatton fighter on and referee Michael Alexander decided the man from Sofia had suffered enough.
Etches told The Star: “He was a tough opponent but I bossed the fight. I just wore him down and then a right hand finished things. I loved it!”
Sheffield stablemate Scott Jenkins had a more challening encounter with another Bulgarian, lightweight Radoslav Mitev.
But he was the busier and more threatening of the two and deserved the points victory.
His last punch of the night was his best - a big right hand to the temple.
Doncaster bantamweight Jason Cunningham towered over Kuwaiti-born Ingle fighter Anwar Alfadli and his height advantage delivered a comfortable points win.
