KElL BROOK is confident he can shrug off a minor foot injury and claim the IBF world title in the New Year.
The Sheffield welterweight has revealed he injured his ankle on a running-machine in a gym at his Fuerteventura training camp.
He said: “I went over on it on a treadmill and my strength, conditioning and nutrionists said it was not going to be safe to really do the intensive training that was needed to be done.”
Brook told doghouseboxing.com that he didn’t want his fans to book flight tickets with the initial date of January 19 under threat, so his promoter persuaded his American counterparts to postpone it. The fight now takes place on February 23 in Detroit.
Brook accepted that he needs to be at 100 per cent fitness to tackle Devon Alexander, whom he described as an elite fighter.
He added that a win would set him up for a fight with Amir Khan: “It has to happen,” he said.
