CURTIS Woodhouse must now be recognised as a legitimate boxer - rather than just a one-time footballer.
So says Sheffield Boxing Centre trainer Glyn Rhodes who admired the 31-year-old boxer’s courage in the 12-round points loss to Frankie Gavin last Saturday.
He said: “Curtis was introduced to the crowd as a former Sheffield United footballer and I couldn’t help thinking: ‘What for?’ He might not be the world’s best boxer and he has never pretended he is. But neither is there for novelty value as a sideshow attraction. At one point people were betting 100-1 against him winning. Well, he went the distance with a world amateur champion and proved he should be respected as a hard-working boxer.”
Woodhouse, (won 15 lost 3) says he is licking his wounds after the defeat...but will carry on in pursuit of a title.
