Gavin McDonnell is on the verge of a tilt at a major title but promoter Stefy Bull is appealing for help to make it happen.
Bull has lined up South African ace Klaas Mboyane for McDonnell in a final eliminator for the Commonwealth super bantamweight title.
And he wants to bring the fight to the Dome in September.
But Bull admits he needs some financial help to put the fight on and is appealing for local businesses for sponsorship.
“This is a major opportunity for Gav and one I think he’s ready for,” Bull said.
“He’s just getting better and better and this fight is one I definitely think he can win.
“Mboyane is very tough, he went the distance with WBO bantamweight champion Paulus Ambunda.
“Obviously fights like this cost money and I could do with some help.
“I think Gav can follow in his brother Jamie’s footsteps and this is the start of it.
“It’s a great investment in my opinion and it would be a great occasion for Doncaster.
“This is a massive fight for a Doncaster fighter and to have it here would be incredible.”
Bull also hopes McDonnell can pick up sponsorship which would allow him to take time off work for a full time training camp.
Victory for McDonnell would install him as the mandatory challenger for Carl Frampton’s Commonwealth title.
The Dunscroft fighter continued his impressive run of form with a demolition of Ross Burkinshaw at the Dome last weekend.
