AMIR KHAN has poured scorn on Sheffield boxer Kell Brooks’ achievement in beating former world champion Lovemore N’Dou.
While welterweight Brook (147 pounds) was winning on points at Hillsborough Liesure centre on a Sky TV show, Khan was tweeting: “Brook is fighting a guy who has lost a lot of fights and was beaten twice by Paulie Malignaggi at 140lb. If they say Brook is good, test him with a genuine top 15 or even top 10 fighter at 147lb. All hype.”
Brook immediately hit back at the WBA World light welter champion saying: “When you step up to 147 I’ll have a belt waiting for you.”
The Sheffielder also told The Star Khan “should be supporting UK fighters.”
The Bolton fighter’s rebuke also startled Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn who replied he was “very disappointed in comments...I believe we should all be trying to support UK prospects. Very strange.”
Brook’s win brought him the WBA Inter-Continental title: Star analysis, P44. The show was dedicated to tragic former boxer Tom ‘T-Bar’ Bradley, who died in a road accident in Rivelin last week.
