Boxing: Super Sampson delights in derby win

Jamie Sampson maintained his 100 per cent record with a Steel City derby win on the undercard of Jamie McDonnell’s world title win at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The Arbourthorne light welterweight outboxed Killamarsh’s raw Lee Connelly over six rounds. The 22-year-old moved to 8-0 with the 59-56 win.

Doncaster heavyweight Carl Spencer earned a third stoppage in as many fights, seeing off Hungarian Ferenc Zsalek in two rounds.

Dronfield’s Lewis Taylor won the International Masters Bronze middleweight title by outpointing Doncaster’s Jason Ball 79-75.

Doncaster’s former Senior ABA champion Jason Cunningham forced a retirement from Usman Ahmed after four rounds to secure the International Masters flyweight title.

In the chief support, Darlington’s Stuart Hall was far too classy for rated US bantamweight Sergio Perales and took the IBF intercontinental title on a unanimous decision.

n Kell Brook will return to the ring on July 13 at Craven Park, Hull. The welterweight is set to face Carson Jones, who he narrowly beat last year.
