Thorpe Hesley cruiserweight Neil Dawson’s brave attempt to win the British title ended in disappointment tonight, in Newcastle.
Opponent and reigning champion Jon-Lewis Dickinson wore the 33-year-old down over ten gruelling rounds.
The referee Phil Edwards stepped in, with the 33-year-old South Yorkshireman taking too much punishment - and too many head shots - on the ropes.
There was just 27 seconds left of the round - but Dawson looked like he’d got nothing else to offer.
Geordie Dickinson said it was a boyhood dream to win the Lonsdale belt outright - but now it would have pride of place in his home.
It was Dawson’s fourth defeat in 16 pro outings.
But he can be comforted by the fact he was up against an accomplished champion.
