KELL BROOK’S match-makers are moving in on American Carson Jones after failing to lure his fellow countrymen Devon Alexander to England.
Promoter Eddie Hearn who has set aside a July 7 date at Sheffield Arena for Brook’s next outing, was hoping to bring in Alexander, the man who beat Brook’s stablemate Junior Witter, in 2009.
But Alexander wanted to fight Brook on his own turf, later in the summer, so the emphasis has switched to Jones (won 33 lost 8 drawn 2.)
Hearn told BoxingScene.com: “I called their team (Jones) straight away after the (Matthew) Hatton fight. It is a great fight; both camps want it.”
Jones, who like Brook is 25, initially looked down his nose at the Grenoside welterweight, saying he wasn’t far enough up the rankings. But the IBF has now installed the Sheffielder at number five and Jones at three.
