South Yorkshire heavyweight David Allen has been sparring with Wladimir Klitschko as the world champion prepares for his next fight.
Conisbrough-born Allen, 22, flew to Austria to sample the strength of ‘Dr. Steelhammer’ at close quarters.
Klitschko defends his titles against Kubrat Pulev on November 15 and Allen was paid around 500 Euros a round to help his camp.
“Because my style was different to Pulev they let me go, but he was a nice bloke and I had to be on high alert when I was in the ring with him.”
Allen, who recently sparred IBF contender Artur Szpilka in Poland, went eight rounds with Anthony Joshua at Sheffield’s Institute of Sport, on Thursday. “We are used to each other; we must have sparred over 500 rounds over the years.”
The fighter is now being trained in Rothwell, Leeds and is promoted by Sheffield’s Dennis Hobson.
