IT’S the longest day of the year - and it will drag on and on for Sheffield’s John Fewkes.
He was due to box on a show at iceSheffield tonight, but the event was cancelled. “It is ridiculously annoying” he said on video on our star.co.uk website.
“People don’t realise how wound up and focussed you get for a fight. Everything goes down to that day, you don’t think about anything else. And to say its off its just like somebody has just punched you.”
Fewkes, who has only had two fights since 2010, was a big ticket-seller once. And he’d wanted to “get busy” after donning the professional gloves again after a break.
But the silver lining is an intriguing eight round contest with Dale Miles, at Doncaster Dome, on July 26.
Meanwhile, Kell Brook’s injury problems mean he won’t be campaigning at the 147lbs welterweight limit against Carson Jones on July 13. It appears Jones’ team have accepted a catch-weight contest at 150lbs.
Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn has spoken about the possibility of Brook moving up to light middleweight (154lbs.)
The fighter commented: “Big things will come from me, I’m going to make a statement in this fight.”
